The numbers don’t lie, people. Never do, at least when it comes to tallying up box office ticket sales. The Force Awakens is off to a record-setting start around the world.
To quote Count Dooku from Episode II – this is just the beginning!
Star Wars: The Force Awakens began its global assault on Wednesday, grossing $14.1 million from its first 12 international markets and eclipsing all previous Star Wars entries.
France led with $5.2 million, one of the best showings of all time and almost double the opening day results of Jurassic World. It’s also the biggest launch ever for a Disney film, and more than double the first day of the studio’s Marvel tentpole, Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Most movies include previews in their opening-day results overseas; Force Awakens did host any European previews this past weekend since it didn’t make its world premiere until Monday.
Force Awakens also landed in Italy Wednesday, grossing an impressive $2 million. That’s the best start for December.
